Bank account zeroed out after using Paypal

Completely devastated!!! I wanted to order some shoes online, and a paypal option came on the screen. I don’t have an account but I saw the logo and thought it was safe. I entered all my card info to pay for the shoes and it said insufficent fund which made no sense. I went to the bank and my account had been zeroed out. :.( I don’t know what happened!!! I thought it was secure!!!)
